Costa went to and fro within Los Angeles and Europe, exerting a sharp childhood sense while forming a sophisticated music career. At an early age of seven, she sang "On My Own" with the Don Costa Orchestra in Milan. From there, her smart persona was captivated on record. She released various albums across Europe, Israel, Central and South America and many of them went platinum. Whirlwind success, however, was not overpowering. Working at her father's recording studio she met some notable singers including, Quincy Jones, Sly Stone, and Sammy Davis Jr., who honed this talented singer into the famous individual she's turned out to be.
During her teens she dominated the German charts and by the time she reached her mid-twenties, Australia. She established a huge fan base among the Outback, signing a deal with Mushroom Records and releasing Butterfly Rocket in the mid-'90s. It earned a nomination for "Best New Artist" at the annual Australian Recording Industry Awards.
The new millennium sprang up with a new scene for Costa. By then she was a matured woman with an impassioned spark of determination and passion, her songwriting expanded into an attractive art. Her urban vocalic styling sidled with a raw eroticism, yet with class. She got together with the Aussie label Cheeba Sound, and soon-to-be label mate D'Angelo. The sensual single "Like a Feather" scored Costa huge fame when the cut was used in a Tommy Hilfiger advert. Virgin Records discovered this and introduced Nikka Costa to the world in spring 2001 with the full-length release of Everybody Got Their Something. She made a come back in May of 2005 with Can't never did nothin' and went for a tour in the promotion of the release, with one of its guest stars, Lenny Kravitz.
