About The Newsboys

Biography: Newsboys were started in Mooloolaba, Australia and were called the News. The band was renamed after it came to the US. The band reached the US in late 1987 after signing a recording deal with Refuge Communications. A year later they released their album Read All About It. After that they went on to sign with Star Song Communications, and released two albums Hell Is For Wimps, and Boys Will Be Boyz with the label. The three albums did not create any impact, and moreover with every release there was a change in the line up. However their 1992 album Not Ashamed, created an impact in the Christian music scene. The title song of the album became a big hit and it brought name for the band. A popular singer within the Christian music community, Steve Taylor, collaborated with the band and produced as well as wrote songs for the band. In 1994 the band issued the album Going Public, which became a big hit. The album garnered a Dove Award for "Rock album of the Year" in 1995 for the band. "Spirit Thing", "Let It Rain", and, most notably, "Shine" were the hit singles from the band. This album catapulted the band into the Christian music scenario. The follow up Take Me To Your Leader released in 1996 too became a hit. It spawned hits such as "God Is Not A Secret", "Reality", "Breakfast", and the title track. This album too fetched for the band yet another Dove award for "Recorded Music Packaging of the Year". But after the release of this album lead singer John James left the band in 1997. The band continued to perform with the remaining members and there were no changes till 2003. After the departure of James the band released Step Up to the Microphone that as expected became a hit. It had the hit "Entertaining Angels", whose video got for the band the 1999 Dove Award for "Short Form Music Video of the Year". The band experimented with their 1999 album Love Liberty Disco, it did not have the usual pop-rock sound. However the album spawned radio single hits such as "Beautiful Sound", "Good Stuff", and "Love Liberty Disco". The band issued the album Shine: The Hits, a compilation of greatest hits. The album also had four new songs that became a hit. In 2002 the band came out with the album Thrive. The following year the band released their maiden praise and worship album Adoration: The Worship Album. As usual this album too became a big hit. In 2006 the band released their album GO that got critical acclaim. In 2007 they released the remix version of their 2006 album GO.
