Tom Petty was the main and core member of the group as he was not only bass player, vocalist, writer and producer of the band but now he has become band leader taking the band to next level. Their success can be measured by the fact that all the major record and music companies were after them just to sign for an album. But instead begining a signing spree they gave a thoughtful time over those record companies which ultimately resulted in signing with the top record companies. They began their music journey by signing contracts with record companies like Columbia Records, Atlantic, Polydor and Fantasy Records. But they got their major breakthrough when they were signed by Laurie Records in New York. This gave New Tropics the well deserved name and fame which lasted for years all together. With them they hit the chart with numbers such as For a Long Time, I Want More and many more.
But soon they parted company, as Phoenix Records in Europe attracted them with more profit and bigger brand name. This saw them at par with various famous rock bands of that time. During their rock music journey they won the first prize in International Battle of The Bands, Chicago, Illinois. This made them a renowned rock band of all times. They were the first rock band who was also popular because of their clothes and accessory. New Tropics used to wear jazzy and flashy clothes which soon became the fashion statement among the teens and their merchandised clothes were selling like hot cakes in the American market. Seeing the bands sudden popularity and fame Sunn decided to sponsor the band which gave them a new and jazzy look. Sunn also replaced all their old equipments with new and modern ones. They later signed on an independent record company Souzaphone Records giving their best. Thus, New Tropics is classified as one of the most renowned rock bands of all times.
