With the addition of drummer Marty Ylitalo, tabla virtuoso Rajiv Parikh, and conguero Brian Carey, New Monsoon came into being. While recording their maiden album Hydrophonic in early 2001the band solicited long-time friend Phil "The Pianimal" Ferlino for keyboard tracks. After getting to know about the project Ferlino joined the band on-stage at the 2001 High Sierra Music Festival. Finally the line up of New Monsoon was complete. The band hit the road and as well as released their second album Downstream, in 2003. The following year bassist Ben Bernstein became a part of the band, his inclusion has been instrumental in catapulting the band to new musical heights.
