About The Misfits

The band was formed in 1977 by singer and songwriter, Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only. They are well known names in heavy metal, punk rock and rock music genre. Earlier, Glenn Danzig used to sing for Talus and Whodat And Boojang. He named his band "Misfits", as a tribute to film artist, Marilyn Monroe whose movie was called "Misfits".

Before finalizing the line-up for the band, Glenn Danzig did a lot of research. Most of the group members are not trained artists. The band stopped recording and performing in 1983, but a new version of the band which is led by Jerry Only began operations in 1995. The present line-up for Misfits includes Jerry Only, Dez Cadena and ROBO. The former members who were associated with this band include Glenn Danzig, Diane DiPiazza, Jimmy Battle, Manny Marti´nez, Franche´ Coma, Rick Riley, Mr. Jim,Bobby Steele,Joey Image, Arthur Googy,Todd Swalla, Brian Damage, Dr. Chud, Myke Hideous, Michale Graves, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, Zoli Teglas and Marky Ramone.

Misfits released their first single, Cough/Cool, under their own label, Blank Records. In 1977, Misfits recorded their first full length album with seventeen songs in a New York studio. But the album was not released due to lack of suitable labels. Misfits took four tracks from the album and released it as an EP in June,1978 under their own label, Plan 9. The group got a big break when their first full length album, Walk Among Us, was released under the label Ruby/Slash Records in 1982. All the songs for the album were written by Glenn Danzig.

Since then, the original Misfits have released three studio albums Earth A.D. in 1983, Static Age in 1997 and 12 Hits From Hell in 2001. They also released one live album titled, Evilive, in 1982. The EP's include Bullet, Horror Business, Night of the Living Dead, 3 Hits from Hell and Die, Die My Darling. While performing the band mates wore ghoulish makeup. Moreover, Jerry Only is the founder of a hairstyle known as 'devilock', that became very popular among their fans.

The last show performed by the original Misfits was at City Gardens in Trenton. Glenn Danzing disbanded the original band in 1983, following several changes in the lineup. But it was not for a very long time. In 1995, Jerry and Doyle reformed the band and it became popular by new names like Newfits, MisfitsTM, Jerry Only Band or Misfits 95. The new lineup released their debut album, American Psycho in 1997. Their other releases include Famous Monsters and Project along with a live album titled, Evilive II.

Currently, Misfits are busy working for their new untitled studio album. The band will perform at the Desensitised festival on 8th September 2007 and after that, they will be on a full UK tour to mark the 30th anniversary of their formation
