Mike Gordon may have started out as the bassist for Phish in 1982, but he has emerged as much more. He has been a manager, songwriter, producer, and filmmaker. It all began at the University of Vermont where he met Trey Anastasio, Jon Fisherman, and Jeff Holdsworth. The four would become Phish. Long before they were selling out tickets around the world Gordon was the band’s manager, booking shows and handling public relations for the group.

Mike’s schedule always seemed to be full. He could be writing songs for the group or he could be working on one of his many side projects. Over the span of his career, Gordon has dabbled in folk, blue grass, and rock playing more than just the bass guitar. His skills on the banjo, piano, and guitar allowed him to try selling tickets as a member of Benevento-Russo Duo, Leo Kottke, and SerialPod among many others.
He became Phish’s filmmaker in 1994 when he shot the jam-rock group’s only music video. He has since shot several short films that have won awards at several festivals. Gordon has also served as a music producer for other artists. But when it comes down to it, Mike best known for his original sound. The bassist produces this style with his custom-made bass from Paul Languedoc and a variety of signal processing equipment.
