MGMT began singing at the college club Beach. The group used to practice at the lead singer's house. The members of MGMT grew up together. The drummer first found his love of music by listening to his grandmother's collection of records.

After this past busy year the members of MGMT will take a break. The band just completed their latest project, but they are already thinking of their next move. The new release from MGMT has taken the group in a new direction, incorporating more influences than previous albums.
Critics have often commended MGMT for their ability to energize the crowd at live shows. Samuel Hemmingway, a music critic from Champaign, has always been a fan of band’s terrific drummer. MGMT’s newest record has received great praise from all the critics, including Jacob Gibson from Denver and Hugh Avondale from Houston.
MGMT was discovered while joking around, performing on the street one day. The members of the band all quit their other jobs to focus on their music. Now the band is a huge draw wherever they go.
MGMT realized that they were truly working musicians in 1978, when the group's first fan club was started by Shirley Colangelo. The fan club grew quickly from a few dozen members in a few cities to a few thousand from coast to coast.
