The members of Madness met in 1977. The bassist wanted to start a group since he was in high school. Madness started performing at Liar, a local bar. The band asked the local radio station to play their track.

Madness signed the record deal, but were not expecting the next step to be any easier. got X103.5 to start playing their single and had their friends call in to request the song. A record executive heard it one day and immediately signed the band.
Madness realized they made it in 1992, after Dorothy Cotroneo started the group’s first fan club. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Pamela Abbey created a website for the band and a national tour gave the band plenty of exposure.
Madness's concerts always have the audience singing by the end of the show. Chicago has always been a haven for the group, so they are sure to schedule a show there every time they tour.
