Maccabees started singing at Upshot, a college club. The bassist used to annoy his mom by playing his favorite cassette tape too loud. The guitarist wanted to start a group since he was in college. Maccabees’s members were friends in grade school. Buddy Holly heavily influenced the early work of the band.

Maccabees was offered a record contract after putting on a show at at Dissidence, a local dive bar. The group group played festivals, parties, bars, really just about anywhere that would take them.
Maccabees's new album is the group's fifth record. The band just finished their new album, but they are thinking of what is next to come.
Critics have generally praised Maccabees for their ability to rile up the audience during live shows. San Francisco music critic Lane Rummerfield has always been enamored with band’s tremendous drummer. Maccabees’s most current album has received incredible reviews from all the critics, including Phil Storjohann from New York and Raymond Abbott from Concord.
