Lollapalooza has been one of the must see summer shows for almost two decades and has landed itself in Chicago only since 2005. Lollapalooza started in 1991 and was the created by Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction as a goodbye tour for his band. The show is now a 3 day festival at Grant Park in the heart of Chicago’s downtown and has become a summer destination for concert goers from around the country. The current Lollapalooza festival in Chicago has 70 acts on five stages and attracts over 65,000 people.

The first Lollapalooza starred Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Fishbone, Violent Femmes, Ice-T with Body Count, The Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band. The best show ever was in 1992 when the main stage line up was Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Lush and the second stage was Archie Bell, Arson Garden, The Authority, Basehead, Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder, Cypress Hill, Jim Rose Circus, The Look People, Porno For Pyros, Rage Against the Machine, Samba Hell, Seam, Seaweed, Sharkbait, Skrew, Stone Temple Pilots, Sweaty Nipples, Tribe, Truly, Vulgar Boatmen.
Lollapalooza has had much success and decline over the years but after a few years off here and there it has found new legs as a 2 day fest in Chicago. The bands in 2008 are some of the biggest names in music right now such as Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Kanye west, NIN, and Wilco.
