In the early stages of his musical career, he had to undergo some trials and tribulations. The turning point of his musical career came when he released a single under the title “Viet Nam Blues” which was released in the year 1966. After gaining immense popularity in the music industry, Kristofferson signed a contract with Epic Records in the year 1967 and it marked a new era of American music industry where he ruled their for a long time.
Kristofferson released a new single “Golden Idol/ Killing Time” but this single failed to impress either the audience nor the critics. This failure helped Kristofferson to further his experiment on the various spheres of music. He is famous for some of his superb hits for example: “Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down”, “Help Me Make It Through the Night” and “Me and Bobby McGee”. After signing a contract with Monument Records, Kristofferson released his first album under the title of “Kristofferson” in the year 1970. This album got a lukewarm response from the market and but when it was re-released under a different title “Me & Bobby McGee”, it witnessed a good response from the market. Some of the singles of this album were praised by various critics. The prestigious award of “Song of the Year” by the Academy of Country Music was won by the single “For the Good Times” and another single “Sunday Morning Coming Down” was also awarded with the same title by the country Music Association.
His outstanding contribution in various facets of music industry helped him to garb some other prestigious awards from various sources. In the year 2006, he was honored with “Johnny Mercer Award” from the Songwriter Hall of Fame. When he released his third album under the title of “Border Line” in the year 1972, it created a furor in the music industry. In that year some of his original tracks were nominated for the prestigious Grammy Awards in various categories.
