About Kid Rock

Kid Rock was born Robert Richie in Romeo, Michigan. While growing up he became a b-boy, break dancing to hip-hop as it transcended from a little know music offshoot to a mainstream phenomenon. Kid Rock earned his nick name later as a DJ playing at parties. Then he was not playing for tickets and millions of dollars, but for beer and the simply chance to perform.

His style caught the ear of record executives from Jive Records, but they sat on his record and released the artists. He toured the local concert scene, trying to make a name for himself. Unfortunately, his next label, Continum Records did not have the finances to properly promote Kid Rock.

He eventually released under his own label and put on a showcase that only A&R showed up to. They signed to a preliminary deal, but made a solid offer after hearing Kid Rock’s demo tape. The performer finally made his major record debut in 1998 at the age of 26. Almost a decade after signing his first deal, he would be given the chance to make his mark on music.

With MTV on his side, Kid Rock began to sell tickets and albums. Singles like “Bawitdaba”, “Cowboy”, and “I Am the Bullgod” Devil Without a Cause went platinum 11 times. The singer became a star and The History of Rock (2000) and Cocky (2001) followed as multi-platinum releases.

Eventually Kid Rock began to struggle. His album sales dropped, but his fans stayed true. They made Kid Rock (2003) and Rock N Roll Jesus (2007) certified platinum and bought enough tickets to keep him as a top selling artist.
