The vocalist and lyricist K.D. Lang was born in 1961 in a place called Edmonton in Alberta. She was brought up at Consort in Alberta. While she was a student of Red Deer College she felt interested toward music for the first time and decided to be a professional vocalist. She was a great admirer of Patsy Cline and in 1983 started a band named Reclines which was homage to her idol. In the same year they brought out their first album named Friday Dance Promenade and performed in a play. Next year she came out with the album named A Truly Western Experience which received many critical appreciations and made her famous in the whole country.

In 1985 Lang won the Canadian Juno Award under the category of Most Promising Female Vocalist. Later she received Juno awards for eight times. Next year she made an agreement a record producer of Nashville. In 1987 she made an album named Angel with a Lariat which had the production of Dave Edmunds and was praised by the reviewer. She got the greatest opportunity when she was selected by Roy Orbison for taping a duet which made the win the Grammy Award under the category of Best Country Collaboration with vocals. She was a popular artist and continued her work to increase her popularity.
In the year 1989 the album named Absolute Torch and Twang honoured her with the American Grammy Award under the category of Best Female Country Vocal Performance. The tracks of the album were very popular in the charts and also manage to reach the first position. One of her best song Constant Craving was a track of her album Ingenue that was released in 1992. The tracks of this album did not have country effect as her earlier albums. The track made her listed among the best sellers, earned her a lot of appreciation from the reviewers. It was also categorised as the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance making her win the Grammy awards.
K.D. Lang made many successful projects and in 1996 she became Canada’s Officer of the Order. She gained a good position in the 2002 CMT’ 40 Greatest Women in Country Music and in 1999 VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Rock & Roll. She became listed among the eight women who successfully made their position on both the charts. In the year 2003 in the category of Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album she won Grammy award for the fourth time. The album titled A Wonderful World for which she worked with Tony Bennett. Later she continued with to perform with many popular artists and brought out Watershed which was a compilation.
K. D. Lang made several performances in drama and films and had starred with famous artists like Ashley Judd. Lang had also taken part in many programmes for supporting the victims of Aids. She worked with Annie Lennox for producing Sing which was a charity record for making the people aware of HIV transmission to unborn African children. To support the human rights of the Tibetans she became the unofficial editorialist of the newspaper The Age in the year 2008.
