Background:
Justin Timberlake is a two-time Grammy Award-winning American singer and aspiring actor who came to fame as the front man of the pop band 'N Sync. He was a member of the popular 1990s boy band, 'N Sync formed in 1996 and went on hiatus in 2002. It was then that Timberlake decided to launch a solo career. Though Timberlake has played a major role in the teen pop explosion of the '90s and 2000s he usually doesn't get much respect from rock critics like similar teen pop favorites, the Backstreet Boys, C-Note, Christina Aguilera, Hanson, the Spice Girls, and Britney Spears.

He released his debut solo album, “Justified” in 2002 which sold over seven million copies worldwide. Timberlake, part of the more modern school of teen pop, which is mindful of dance-pop, urban contemporary and hip-hop got started with the rise of New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gibson, and Tiffany in the late '80s. Like Spears, Aguilera and N'Sync's JC Chasez, Timberlake too got his start on the Disney Channel's '90s version of The Mickey Mouse Club. Timberlake along with Chasez were on The Mickey Mouse Club simultaneously in their pre-'NSync days and kept working together when 'NSync was formed. 'N Sync's second album “No Strings Attached” was released on Jive in 2000 and was more successful commercially. It went double platinum in only one week, and the singles "Bye Bye Bye" and "This I Promise You" became major hits.
'N Sync's third album was released in 2001 after which Timberlake started recording as a solo artist. "Like I Love You," the album's first single, became a major hit and was followed by a second single, "Cry Me a River". Timberlake performed his debut single Like I Love You at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards and gained a large number of ardent fans. His debut solo album “Justified” received critical acclaim and debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart and sold 439,000 copies in its first week of release, and eventually sold over 3.5 million copies in the US alone, and over 7 million copies worldwide. The album had a heavy R&B influence, and was produced by hip-hop stalwarts The Neptunes and Timbaland.
Timberlake collaborated with several artists on songs between 2003 and 2005.. He featured in the track My Style on the Black Eyed Peas album Monkey Business and appeared in the hit single “Where Is The Love?”. Timberlake often appeared with the Black Eyed Peas to perform the track live including the 2003 MTV Europe Music Awards. Timberlake started his own record company, JayTee Records in the summer of 2005 and signed underground hip-hop artist, Joshua B, as the label's first act. Timberlake will release his second solo album, “FutureSex / Love Sounds” in the Fall of 2006.
