Julie Andrews is a famous English actress, author, singer and icon as well as the recipient of many awards. Born on October 1, 1935 as Julia Elizabeth Wells, Julie shot to fame after her role in many Broadway musicals that include My Fair Lady and Camelot. About The Julie Andrews

During the 2000s, Julie Andrews came back with her film career with films like The Princess Diaries, The Princess Diaries 2, the Shrek animated films among others. She worked as a stage director with The Boy Friend, which was a revival of an earlier play. It was at the Broadway where she started her career in the theatre way back in 1954. Julie Andrews has also brought out many children’s books that have brought her many laurels. In 2008, she brought out her autobiography called A Memoir of My Early Years.

Julie Andrews began her acting career when she was two years of age. She acted the role of a non-speaking fairy at a dance school that was run by her aunt. She performed in a singing and speaking act, Nod that was produced by Nod, Wynken and Blynken.

In 1939, Barbara Wells along with Ted Andrews acted for a variety show, The Dazzle Company. During the WWII, Julie Andrews entertained the troops through Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA). She was sent to her mother and stepfather to hone her artistic skill. She changed her surname to Andrews during this time. Julie Andrews had a bad upbringing as her mother and step father were both alcoholics.

Julie Andrews was sent to Cone-Ripman School, which was an arts educational school in London. Then she went to Madame Lilian Stiles-Allen, the concert soprano and voice instructor. The expenses were borne by her father. She soon developed a firm voice along with a perfect pitch. In the meantime, after she finished her lesson at Cone-Ripman School, she moved to the nearby Woodbrook School in Beckenham. The big break came for Julie Andrews when she was introduced to Val Parnell, the owner of Moss Empires with several important venues around London. He first professional solo was on 22 October 1947 at the London Hippodrome as a part of the revue "Starlight Roof". Here, she played for one year.

Julie Andrews’s solo performance at the London Palladium was the first of its kind in the history of Royal Command Variety Performance. Her television debut was on 8 October 1949 on the BBC program RadiOlympia Showtime. She has also appeared on West End Theatre performing at the London Casino. But Julie Andrews made her Broadway debut on 30 September 1954 when she turned 19 years of age. She played the role of "Polly Browne" in the London musical The Boy Friend. Soon she started getting more offers and her career took a new high. Julie Andrews and Tony Walton married on 10 May 1959 in Surrey.
