Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers are the three singing brothers from Wyckoff, New Jersey. The pop group got its start in 1999 as a solo project by Nick Jonas. Nick had been discovered singing at a barber shop at the age of six and was referred to a music manager. Within a year he was performing on Broadway in “A Christmas Carol” as Tiny Tim. The role led to several others, and while performing in “Beauty and the Beast” in 2002 he wrote a song with his father. >> More alt

“Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)” was recorded on the annual “Equity Fights AIDS” album in 2002. The song made its way to INO Records as a demo and they released the song as a single on Christian radio. The song became a hit and soon after INO Records and Columbia Records signed him and released a second single, “Dear God”. While Nick was beginning a solo career, another one of the Jonas brothers, Joseph, had started to sing on Broadway.

Nick Jonas was supposed to release an album in December 2004 to follow the singles, but Columbia Records’ new president, Steve Greenberg, did not like the album. He did like the singer and his brothers, who had backed him up on the album. The new record president sent Nick’s solo act in another direction, creating a trio called the Jonas Brothers.

The Jonas Brothers began to go on tours in 2005 supporting pop acts like Kelly Clarkson, Jesse McCarthy, and the Backstreet Boys and joined the anti-drug tour with Aly & AJ and The Cheetah Girls.

The first single, “Mandy”, from the group was released in December 2005 and the music video debuted on MTV’s Total Request live in February 2006 and peaked at number four. The second single, Time for Me to Fly” was released soon after and the Jonas Brothers’ first album, It’s About Time, was released in August 2006. The record label had begun to lose interest in promoting the band, and the band began to consider changing labels.

Children television shows on Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network began to use songs from the Jonas Brothers and the group had found its niche. “Year 3000” was released as a single form the first album and stormed the charts on Radio Disney. The song became such a hit that the music video debuted on the Disney Channel in January 2007.

Despite the rush of success, Sony dropped the band in 2007. Hollywood Records picked up the Jonas Brothers a month later. The band continued to work on television commercial jingles and movie soundtracks for a while, but a second self-titled album was released in August 2007. The album reached number five on the Billboard Hot 200 in the first week and two singles, “Hold On” and “SOS”, were released with accompanying music videos around the release of the album.

The release and success of the second album made the Jonas Brothers popular guest stars on shows like Hannah Montana. The group continued to promote heavily, making appearances at the Miss Teen USA contest and at the closing ceremonies of the Disney Channel Games.

All the appearances and the growing popularity resulted in the Jonas Brothers’ first headlining tour, the Look Me In The Eyes Tour. The group also held on to their link with teen superstar Miley Cyrus, performing with her during her Best of Both Worlds Tour.
