Janeane Garofalo has been making people laugh their hats off for more than two decades now. In addition to a successful stand-up comedian, she is well known for her supremely cynical and acerbic character on The Larry Sanders Show and as an easy Gap manager in 1994's Reality Bites. Janeane inspiration by the writing of The David Letterman Show led her to become a comedian and desired of finally writing for Letterman. Janeane Garofalo was born on September 28, 1964 in Newton, New Jersey. She majored in history and American studies at Rhode Island's Providence College. Janeane began her comedic career by participating in a talent search and became popular as the "Funniest Person in Rhode Island". Before coming into show business, Janeane worked as a bike messenger, shoe salesperson and secretary to add on to her income as a stand-up comic.

Initially Janeane performed small parts in even smaller movies and her career officially started in the early 1990s. She first came up on The Ben Stiller Show doing comedy sketches in 1992. Her major breakthrough gig came up the same year, as a repeating character on the Emmy-winning HBO series, The Larry Sanders Show, from 1992 to 1997. Janeane became more popular after acting over the next few years in Reality Bites. Accompanying her on the show were Winona Ryder and Ben Stiller. She was supposedly offered the role of Gale Weathers in the hit slasher flick Scream in 1996, but rejected it to pursue other projects.
Co-hosting the MTV Movie Awards with Ben Stiller in 1996 gave her international. Prominence. In the same year, she appeared in several high-profile projects, including The Truth About Cats & Dogs, The Cable Guy and Larger Than Life. These popular roles were followed by roles in Touch (1997), with Gina Gershon, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997), with Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, The Thin Pink Line (1998), Half Baked (1998), and Permanent Midnight (1998), starring Ben Stiller. Her film career success did not slow down over the next few years. Since 2000, Janeane has appeared in successful films like Steal This Movie (2000), The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle (2000), Wet Hot American Summer (2001), Big Trouble (2002), and Wonderland (2003). Of late in 2004, she appeared in the comedy Jiminy Glick in La La Wood, starring Martin Short. More recently, she appeared in Duane Hopwood in 2005 and the made-for-TV movie Nadine in Date Land, the same year. Her outstanding comedy can be enjoyed in the drama Stay of 2005, with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.
