The group members quit their other jobs to focus on their record. Hedley were still a little worried after they released their debut album, but were relieved when the release began to get some radio play. The group does not have a problem selling out any venue now, small or large.

Hedley knew that they could really have a career in music in 1980, when the group's first fan club was started by Martha Boughton. While the club started out small after the organizer heard the band play at a small club in Biloxi, the club grew leaps and bounds after the group’s first national tour.
