Hal Ketchum is well known as a singer, songwriter and drummer. He was brought up in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. He started drumming at age 15 and subsequently joined an R&B trio. At age 17, Ketchum relocated to Florida and then to Texas, where he promptly got engaged playing at a local dance hall and started out honing his songwriting talent. He proceeded to Nashville in 1986 to compose songs, and after three years came up with his debut album, Threadbare Alibis. Subsequently, Ketchum signed with Forerunner Music, which finally extended to a record contract with Curb.

Ketchum was brought up in Greenwich, New York by Janet and Frank Ketchum. Though Ketchum first started recording in the mid-1980s, not until his 1991 record deal with Curb Records did he have a big hit with the album Past The Point Of Rescue. The title track of the album was a Top 3 single, and other singles that achieved similar success consisted, "Small Town Saturday Night" and "Sure Love". His debut album with Curb came in 1991, Past the Point of Rescue. This album achieved unexpected popularity. And "Small Town Saturday Night", the first single, ranked number two and the second single, "I Know where Love Lives", came to number 13. In 1992, he marked two more hits and this was followed by the release of his third album, Sure Love, which featured three Top 20 hits, comprising the number two "Hearts Are Gonna Roll". The next year, Ketchum got together with the Grand Ole Opry. In 1994, he released his fourth album, Every Little Word, which was not as successful as its precursors, still made two Top 40 hits. In 1995, he produced Greatest Hits; an assemblage of vintage 1977 sessions titled Hal Yes was due in 1998 but held over until the following year, when it was eventually released as Awaiting Redemption.
In 1994, Ketchum traveled Britain, bringing out the single "Past The Point Of Rescue" on the other side of the Atlantic. Though the single could not make it to the UK Top 100 pop charts, it achieved extensive airplay on country radio. The album Every Little Word made to the Top 40 on the UK country charts and also achieved the same back in the US. Ketchum continues to compose and release great hits. His film career includes a minor role in the 1994 film Maverick, he performed as one of the bank robbers.
