Fair To Midland’s members grew up together. The guitarist was influenced by his dad's love of music. The drummer use to listen to records constantly as a kid. Fair To Midland started playing at the local dive bar Waif. The group had their friends harass the local radio station to play their single.

Fair To Midland talked to a local program director from B97.5 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after Fair To Midland was signed. The group is mobbed by fans at every show.
accepted that they had made it in 1989, when the group's first fan club was started by Jennifer Wilmouth. The fan club may have just started out with a few members that followed the band when the played in small clubs, but it quickly grew to thousands after the group released its first album and started touring nationally.
