Elmo Williams began playing at Guy, a local club. The band was influenced by music of the '60s. Elmo Williams’s members met in high school. The bassist was influenced by his grandfather's love of music.

Elmo Williams’s first album was a dud, but the second finally got some attention. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller clubs in which they began. Elmo Williams was discovered after their single was heard on Z96.9. The group played for little to no money at first and was just happy to be given a chance to be heard.
Elmo Williams accepted that they were real working musicians when Donna Storjohann started the first fan club for the group in 1985. After the band’s first North American tour, the fan club grew from the couple dozen fans who heard the band play around San Diego to the thousands who heard them play all across the country.
The band loves playing in Las Vegas because they played their first sold out show there. Elmo Williams appreciates that they are able to do what they love because of the fans, so they play the hits off their latest record as well as the classics.
