Their main USP is their sound which is akin to classic European metal acts like “At the Gates” and “In Flames”, but they are noted for the inclusion of elements of punk and hardcore music. In the past years they have constantly toured many leading acts, such as The Crown, Zao, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Thrice. Furthermore they also played in 2004's famous Ozzfest. Their earlier releases on Victory Records set the standards in the genre as the band cuddled the DIY ethics of the hardcore scene and the technical skill of metal, electrifying their own path and winning fans from both sides of the fence.

Their early releases on While Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation (2003) directly attacked the fraudulence of government, whereas, So Sedated, So Secure (2001) skewered organized religion and raging commercialism. However their latest release On Undoing Ruin opened a new chapter in the Darkest Hour story, themes of healing and moving forward are rampant. This made them so popular that they were always hounded by the media persons. In one of their interviews they said “It’s our first album that isn’t overtly political, though we did record “District Divided” which deals with the rapid gentrification in our hometown, Washington, DC,” commented guitarist Mike Schleibaum, “The album is about change, personal and musical. The name, Undoing Ruin, fit the concept – it’s about making life worth living again.” After this number they were followed by various music companies for signing them. The band came into existence in 1998 and it has been almost 8 years that they are still going strong and rocking the world.

They are tagged as soul of the metal maniacs and they quoted that “They are at the forefront of metal’s new titans, sharing the circle with the likes of Lamb of God.” However Darkest Hour endlessly toured with bands like God Forbid, Dillinger Escape Plan and Atreyu which marked their strong status in the rock music arena. Devin being the prominent and guiding member has always thought and brought changes in the band which proves to be fruitful for the band and its members. This is the only band which is in constant hunt of new sounds and music so that their tunes never seem monotonous and this is their USP too.
