About Damone

The story of Damone is one of dramatic highs and lows, of being pushed to the brink and coming back with a bang, of being left with nothing and clawing up until it got something. The band was formed in the late nineties as a solo project and was the brainchild of guitarist Dave Pino. Seeing the beginnings of something much bigger than just another solo project, Pino began to actively recruit members for his band and soon the starting line up of Damone was formed.

The band originally consisted of Vasquez on bass, a young Noelle LeBlanc on guitars and lead vocals, Pino on lead guitar and Dustin Hengst on drums. The band began jamming together and found they had a unique sound and some very diggable tunes and soon embarked on some gigging and touring in order to spread the sound and word of Damone. Soon their hard work paid off in 2002 when the band managed to snag a record deal with RCA. Thrilled with the fact that they had made their first successful crack at the music industry, the band began to work hard on their debut album From the Attic which was released in 2003.

What followed was some unfortunate and tough times for Damone as they found that the slow sales of their album was beginning to be reflected in the way the label was treating them. This led to a lot of stress and tension inside the band which ultimately culminated with Pino leaving the band. This proved to be a crushing blow for the remaining members of Damone as Pino had been a pivotal force and the main songwriter for the band.

But the remaining members of Damone were not ready to give up. After relocating, they recruited Mike Woods and began work on their next album, this time from Noelle's apartment and with barely enough money to get by, since by this time RCA was pretty much ignoring the existence of Damone. Finally the band asked to be let out of their contract and was dropped but RCA's loss was Island Records gain, who immediately snatched up and signed the band in 2005.
