Cross Canadian Ragweed is a very famous alternative country band of formed in the year 1994 at Yukon, Oklahoma. The band was formed during the Red Dirt scene. It comprises of front man and guitarist Cody Canada, rhythm guitarist Grady Cross, bassist Jeremy Plato and drummer Randy Ragsdale. The band derives its name from an arrangement of all four actual members' names that formed the group i.e. cross from Grady Cross, Canadian from Cody Canada, rag from Randy Ragsdale and weed from the original bassist Matt Wiedemann. A common misconception among the fans of the group is that the name of the band is an allusion to the famous Canadian river, running through Texas and Oklahoma, which is not at all true. The members of Cross Canadian Ragweed knew each other quite very much since their kindergarten days.

About Cross Canadian Ragweed
After forming their band, this famous band went on to move to the well known college town of Stillwater, at Oklahoma. At Stillwater famous acts like Mike McClure's The Great Divide and the famous singer and songwriter Jimmy LaFave had made for themselves enough of a local scene to make Stillwater being nicknamed "North Austin" or else, depending on some people’s perspective, it was called "West Nashville".
The cross Canadian ragweed is hugely popular for one thing and that is the quantity and quality of tours the band performs. They are very well known for their never ending tours which amount to 200 or more shows in a year. Because of their much hyped vocal support for marijuana (it was a song "The Boys from Oklahoma" which was completely about marijuana and was also one of the most famous songs of the band, in spite of not being written by the group, it made the group receive quite a significant college radio airplay prior to it being released from the group’s first, the Highway 377. the group’s second accomplishment was Live and Loud at the Wormy Dog, both of these were in the year 2001, as well as Carney in 2002. it featured the Underground Sounds. The group occasionally also tours with the famous singer Willie Nelson.
With the release of the self titled album which was very eagerly awaited and came to be popularly known as the Purple album owing to its cover color, made the band move into the middle of the road scenario. Their offering in the year 2004 named Soul Gravy debuted at number four on The Billboard charts.
Cross Canadian ragweed has the habit of playing with upcoming country music super star Dierks Bentley and the very famous "Texas Country" performer Pat Green. The band released its latest album in October 2005. The album was named Garage, and featured some great singles like "Fightin' For."
