Cherry Poppin' Daddies is an American band formed in 1989 in Eugene, Oregon who consider their style to be a mixture of swing, ska, and rock. Popularly known for their part in the swing revival of the late 1990s. The Daddies were on the brink of major stardom with the single, title song from their first nationally released album “Zoot” during 1997-98 and its equally popular music video, but their popularity fizzled out along with that of the "new swing" fad, which Perry blamed on record company mismanagement in the press. >> More alt

About The cherry poppin daddies

The eight-piece ska/swing revival collective Cherry Poppin' Daddies formed out of several groups around the University of Oregon in Eugene. Vocalist/guitarist Steve Perry and bassist Dan Schmid originally played in the Jazz Greats and the Hucks, formed Cherry Poppin' Daddies in 1989 with a lineup which gradually encompassed guitarist Jason Moss, drummer Tim Donahue, trumpeter Dana Heitman, Sean Flannery on tenor saxophone, Ian Early on alto and baritone, and keyboard player Dustin Lanker.

The group released their debut album, “Ferociously Stoned', in 1990 on Sub Par Records and followed it up four years later with “Rapid City Muscle Car”. The Pacific Northwest was in the grips of the grunge wave during the early '90s, though, so the Cherry Poppin' Daddies' live show puzzled quite a few fans of alternative rock. By the mid-'90s, the fascination with formerly neglected musical styles had increased the band's prominence, along with bands like Squirrel Nut Zippers and Royal Crown Revue. After the third album “Kids on the Street” was picked up for distribution by Caroline Records, the group compiled the most swing-oriented tracks from their back catalog for release on “Zoot Suit Riot”. Following up to their 1997 multi-platinum Zoot Suit Riot, “Soul Caddy” was released in mid-2000. Following “Soul Caddy”, the Daddies endured a period of inactivity. Lanker and Schmid left the group the next year and formed the Visible Men. Steve Perry worked on his degree in molecular biology and worked on his glam-rock side project, “White Hot Odyssey”.

During this period of inactivity, the band's official website had not seen a single update, and the official message board remained all but dead. In late April 2006, the stagnant site was removed and replaced with a revamped design, promising the Daddies Web site going to be new and current. The incomplete site does contain up-to-date tour information. The redesign occurred just weeks after a Steve Perry radio interview with 1160 AM's Backstage Atlanta host Bryce Maxim revealed a new studio album is in the works. Until the new official site is fully functional, the only still thriving online forum for the Daddies is the appropriately named Cherry Poppin' Daddies Resurrection Forum. The forum features a video section, making it one of the few, if not the only website still featuring working files of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies live performances.
