Camera Obscura’s members met in college. The lead singer use to listen to cassette tapes constantly as a child. The guitarist wanted to start a band since he was in grade school. Camera Obscura started performing at Coward, a local dive bar. Alice in Chains heavily influenced the early work of the group.

The group has just finished their latest record, but they are already planning their next move. Camera Obscura's members hope this tour and the new release attracts a whole new audience.
Generally, critics praise Camera Obscura for their ability to rile up the audience when they perform live. A music critic from Baltimore, Noah Cotroneo, has always been impressed with group’s crisp instrumentals. Camera Obscura’s most current record has received incredible reviews from Lane Menchen, a music critic out of Biloxi, and Bobby Gitlewski, from San Diego.
Even after getting the record deal Camera Obscura were not sure if they would make it in the end. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller bars in which they began.
Camera Obscura appreciates that they are able to do what they love because of the fans, so they play the hits off their newest record as well as the classics. The band loves playing in Urbana because they played their first sold out show there.
