Calabrese began performing at Rationale, a college bar. The group used to sell their tapes out of their van on campus. Calabrese began playing together in 1984. The bassist was influenced by his brother's love of music.

Calabrese continued to work hard, scared they would just be another one hit wonder. All the members quit their other jobs to focus on their record.
Calabrese finally knew they made it in 1988, after the band's first fan club was started by Betty Colangelo. Initially the group only had a few fans from Omaha in the club, but after playing across the nation the fan club’s membership exploded to a few thousand.
The band is in the midst of the tour promoting for their newest album. Calabrese's members see this tour as a chance to expose a whole new group of fans to their music.
Critics have generally commended Calabrese for their playfulness with the crowd during concerts. A music critic from Springfield, Jacob Hilgendorf, has always pointed out group’s accessible lyrics. Calabrese’s most current record has received generally positive praise from Tony Carter, a music critic out of San Antonio, and Jacob Jasper, from Phoenix.
