African Footprint’s members met in 1979. One of the band's members used to fall asleep with the radio playing as a kid. African Footprint began playing at Beach, a local club. The group used to sell their CDs out of their truck at school.

African Footprint’s first album did not do so well, but the second album was a hit, going platinum. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller clubs in which they began. African Footprint talked to a local music director from Z94.5 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after African Footprint was signed. All the members quit their day jobs to focus on their music.
