The members of 2u were friends in middle school. The lead singer wanted to start a band since he was in grade school. The drummer discovered his love of music while listening to his mother's music collection. 2u started singing at the local bar Cliffhanger. The band begged the local radio station to play their song.

2u were unsure about their music careers with the release of their first single, and were relieved after their music began climbing the charts ad getting lots of play on the radio. 2u was offered a record contract after putting on a show at at Disaster, a local dive bar.
2u realized they made it in 1994, after Deborah Zadra started the group’s first fan club. After playing nation wide, the band’s fan club exploded from the handful of fans around Miami to thousands in every city throughout the country.
