The 106 KMEL Block Party is one of Omaha’s most celebrated festivals of the summer. After the city noticed its residents were leaving for the weekends because of the lack of big events the tour was started in 1988.

After a few years word spread and 106 KMEL Block Party began to establish itself as a premier event The tour started to get more acts that had made a name for themselves around the country and it began to warrant the kind of attention its creators dreamed it would receive one day. Soon hotel rooms in the city were being booked months in advance for the dates surrounding 106 KMEL Block Party.
Now 106 KMEL Block Party sells out months in advance, with tickets generally gone before the first week of their being released. Organizers of the festival no that they have a responsibility to ask local groups to play, even though they could probably get just about any group they want. 106 KMEL Block Party has come along way from the tiny event it started out as, and seems only to grow bigger and bigger every year.
