The athletic teams of the North Carolina State University are known as the Wolfpack, and they compete in 24 intercollegiate varsity sports. NC State is a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and has won eight national championships: two NCAA championships, two AIAW championhips, and four titles under other sanctioning bodies. The primary logo for NC State athletics is a red block 'S' with an inscribed 'N' and 'C', and the block S has been in use since 1890, but has seen many alterations through the years, and it became the sole logo for all NC State athletic teams in 2000, but was modernized to its current design in 2006. NC State athletic teams are nicknamed the “Wolfpack”, and the name was adopted in 1922 when a disgruntled fan described the behavior of the student body at athletic events as harrison Plemmons being "like a wolf pack."
The head coach is Tom O'Brien, and the team is playing their games in the Carter-Finley Stadium stadium. They have won many championships like 7 ACC Championships in 1957, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1973 and in 1979, one Southern Conference Championships in 1927, 3 South Atlantic Intercollegiate Championships in 1907, 1910 and 1913, and 23 Bowl Games (12-10-1).
