The athletic teams of the Michigan State University make up the Michigan Spartans. Also known as the Spartans, they compete in NCAA Division I-A and also in the Big Ten Conference. The football team of the Michigan Spartans have won or shared six national championships in 1951, 1952, 1955, 1957, 1965 and 1966. They have also won the Rose Bowl in 1954, 1956 and 1988. The head coach Mark Dantonio who was hired on November 27th 2006 heads the Spartans.

Mark Dantonio was born on March 9th 1956 in El Paso, Texas. He had worked as the assistant coach for Michigan State University, before being hired as the head coach for the Spartans. He replaced the then coach John L. Smith.
The Spartan Stadium (East Lansing) serves as the home ground for the football team of the Michigan Spartans. It is located in East Lansing, Michigan and was inaugurated in the year 1923. It is considered as the fifth largest stadium in the Big Ten Conference with a seating capacity of 75,005 fans, though this number has risen to 80,000 fans on numerous occasions. The Spartan Stadium had under gone a renovation in 2003, with as estimated cost of a whopping $63,000,000. This renovation project included 24 luxury suites, 800 club seats, 18,000 square foot luxury concourse, office space for the MSU alumni association and Spartan Athletic Office, state of the art recruiting lounge, an increase of 3000 seats, bringing the total stadium capacity to 75,005 and other features as well.
