About International Bowl

In 2004, a proposal was put forwarded by the City of Toronto to host a bowl game in Toronto. This was done to safeguard the city from the valuable loss of tourism dollars due to the SARS outbreak in 2003. The NCAA accepted the bid and it sanctioned the new Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego. The bid was made again by Toronto in 2005 and this time the effort was successful, which saw the formation of the International Bowl. Ball State and Rutgers have accepted bids for the upcoming 2008 International Bowl.

The inaugural game was held in 2007. This match was held between Western Michigan University and University of Cincinnati on January 6, 2007 at the Rogers Center. This ground is home to the CFL's Toronto Argonauts and many CIS Vanier Cup teams. Cincinnati won the match with a score of 27-24. Some 26,717 spectators witnessed the first match. This game was shown live on ESPN2 in the United States and TSN in Canada. The inaugural game was the first post-season bowl game to be played outside the United States. This is also a significant football game to be played in Canada under the rules and regulations of American football authority. Earlier, in 2001 Simon Fraser University's football team left the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics to join the Canadian Inter-university Sport, where different universities from Canada play under Canadian football rules.

The bowl has signed an agreement with two Divisions I conferences for annual representation. The Big East Conference, a Bowl Championship Series conference, is ready to send a fourth placed team or higher to the game in future. Moreover, the Mid-American Conference will also send a top team for the event. Each of the conference is made up of schools in the northern states of the American Midwest and Northeast, with the exception of the University of South Florida.

For the second match of the International Bowl to be played in January at Rogers Center tickets are on sale. For free tickets contact your online vendor without any delay.
