The Indiana Hoosiers are the athletic programs of the Indiana University. The university is popularly known as the Indiana University Bloomington and is located in Bloomington, Indiana. The Indiana state government founded the university as the State Seminary in the year 1820. It was renamed as the Indiana College in 1828 and finally named the Indiana University in 1838.

All the athletic programs represent the Indiana University in the Big Ten Conference in Division I of the NCAA. The Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team has been a member of the Big Ten Conference since 1901. The team has won a total of five NCAA championships in 1940, 1953, 1976, 1981 and 1987. It stands in the all time third position with five wins in NCAA history after the University of California, Los Angeles and Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball teams. Tom Crean is the current head coach of the Indiana University men's basketball team having joined the university on April 1, 2008.
The Assembly Hall that is located in Bloomington, Indiana is the home to the Indiana Hoosiers basketball teams. The arena was inaugurated in the year 1972. It has played host to the NCAA basketball tournament three times, with sub-regional games in 1977 and 1979 and the Midwest regional finals in 1981. The Assembly Hall has a seating capacity for 17,456 spectators.
