San Diego is the only major submarine and shipbuilding yards on the West Coast, as well as the largest naval fleet in the world. The cruise ship industry generates $2 million annually from the purchase of food, fuel, supplies and maintenance services. Tourism is huge in San Diego due to the city’s climate. Some of the major tourist attractions are Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, Wild Animal Park and Legoland and the beaches and golf.

The following military bases can be found in San Diego; U.S Navy Ports, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. One the two Marine Corps’ recruiting facilities in located in San Diego. San Diego is known as the birthplace of naval aviation. Additionally the city has the largest naval fleet in the world. The USS Nimitz, USS Ronald Reagan, five amphibious assault ships, “fast attack” submarines, carrier and submarine tenders and small shops are home ported in San Diego. Four Navy vessels have been names after the city.
