About New York

New York City is well traveled by many tourists. Some of the most visited parts of the city include The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, Empire State Building, Times Square and many more. New York City has over 28,000 acres of parkland. Central Park is the most visited park in the United States. Central park has numerous walking tracks, two ice-skating rinks, a zoo and a conservatory garden.

New York City is comprised of five boroughs; The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. The Bronx is home to Yankee Stadium and the largest Co-op housing in the United States. Brooklyn is the home to Coney Island established in 1870 as one the countries earliest amusement grounds. In Manhattan you can find the city’s skyscrapers, Central Park, the financial center of the city, the United Nations, the Broadway Theatre District, Madison Square garden and much more. The borough is divided up in lower, midtown and uptown regions. Queens is the home of Shea Stadium and the two major New York airports. It is the largest and most ethnically diverse. Staten Island is home of the free Staten Island Ferry that takes people to and from Staten Island and Manhattan. During the ride on the ferry you can see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Public transportation is the best form of transportation in New York City. The New York City Subway is the largest rapid transit in the world. The system has 468 stations and remains open 24 hours. It is very convenient and easy to use for all travelers. The use of taxi cabs in the city is also a very common form of transportation. When walking around New York City you will see plenty of yellow cabs and very few passenger cars.

Some of the most popular foods that one must try when travelling to New York City are bagels, cheesecake and the famous New York Style Pizza. These foods have become the most popular because of the Jewish and Italian immigrants that came to the city. You will find over 4,000 mobile street vendors all throughout New York City.

Manhattan is home to the Theatre District which houses 39 theatres with 500 seats or more. Each of these theatres shows either Broadway or off Broadway shows. Off-Broadway shows are located in Manhattan that seat less than 500 people and are less expensive, less publicized and less well-known in comparison to Broadway shows. In 2007 there was a Broadway strike that sent many theatre goers to many of the Off-Broadway shows.
