In 2009, Nashville will begin construction of the Signature Tower which will stand more than 1,000 feet above the ground and will be the largest skyscraper outside of the Sears Tower and Eiffel Tower and will be the seventh tallest building in the United States. The city is home to more than 250 health care companies and contributes $18.3 billion per year and 94,000 jobs to the Nashville area. The automotive industry is also a key player in the Nashville economy mainly because of the headquarter move made by Nissan.
Nashville is home to many major annual events to include; the GMA Music Awards Christian and Gospel music awards held in April at the Grande Ole Opry or Ryman Auditorium; The CMA music festival which is a four day event featuring performances by country stars; the Tennessee State Fair at the State Fairgrounds which last nine days and includes rides, exhibits, rodeos, and tractor pulls; The Nashville Film Festival which features hundreds of independent films; the African Street Festival which occurs on the Tennessee State University; and other big events such as Fourth of July celebration, country music half and full marathon and Tomato Art Festival.
Nashville is home to several professional sporting teams; Tennessee Titans (NFL), Nashville Predators (NHL), Nashville Sounds (Minor League Baseball), Nashville Metros (Premier Development League), Nashville Storm (North American Football League), and Nashville Dream (National Women's Football Association). Each team plays at a different arena. The Titans and the Tennessee State University teams play at LP Field. Other venues include, Sommet Center, Herschel Greer Stadium, and Ezell Park.
Nashville has earned many nicknames such as Music City, USA, Athens of the South, The Protestant Vatican, Cashville, Nashvegas, and Little Kurdistan. The city gets the nickname Cashville because the Nashville native Young Buck released his very successful album called Straight outta Cashville.
