There are varied assumptions about the name of Boca Raton. One myth is that it is simply a translation of Rat's Mouth from the Spanish words boca meaning mouth and ratón a mouse. This name, though, originally appeared on the maps of eighteenth century as an associated inlet in the Biscayne Bay area of Miami, which was mistakenly moved to north to its current location on the maps.
Boca Raton Resort & Club Tower is the tallest building of this city in its present establishment. This building stands at 300 feet with 28 floors. It was completed in 1969 and in operation since then. The city has many other attractions as well. The site of Addison Mizner's Cloister Inn was built in 1927. Now it is referred to as pink hotel. Another distinction of this city is through its becoming the southern home to the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) in the late 1960s.

It is a major city of the South Florida metropolitan area. According to the 2000 census the population of this city does 74,764 people, 31,848 households and 20,000 families inhabit here. Its population density is 1,061.7/km². There are 37,547 housing units at an average density of 533.2/km².
Boca Raton follows strict development code including size and type of its commercial buildings, signboards and advertisements that are erected within the city limits under special guidelines. No car dealership is permitted in its municipality area. Nobody is allowed to stick billboards in the city premises. The unincorporated areas of this city accommodate several restaurants that have classic arches depicting Mediterranean and Spanish architectural themes.
