Bloomsburg has the distinction of being the only incorporated town in Pennsylvania. Its incorporation mission started on March 4, 1870. Other municipalities too were then commonly referred to as the towns – they were classified as cities and townships. Bloomsburg emerged from many catastrophes to use the slogan of ‘the only town in Pennsylvania’ over the centuries. The state government described Bloomsburg ‘the only incorporated town in Pennsylvania’ since centuries.
The Bloomsburg Area School District of this city is a symbol of its educational mission. This school has enrolled about 1,800 students from Bloomsburg itself besides having the presence of students from many other western and south-eastern suburbs. The Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School in Bloomsburg has numerous secondary education trade programmes for its local students.
