Kanye West has apparently reached the level of fame that allows him to say anything he wants, seem pious, and then blatantly build himself up. Yes, I thought that the one artist who I would ever see able to expertly navigate these treacherous public relations waters was Madonna, but now she has competition from the Grammy Award-winning, world famous rapper, producer, and “singer”.
In an interview with Vibe, the master lyricist drops the line that he wants to be able to drop to a level of fame that would allow him to announce he wants to poise naked and have people just say, “Oh, that Kanye. What a character.”
Then he goes onto say that he would actually consider doing a nude spread just to break every rule of hip hop. Wow, he broke from the cadence of the interview to excite the thrill seeking fan base he just said he did not want.
I guess Kanye is saying he wants a core group of about 20,000 fans is like saying Madonna has found new inspiration through religion. It makes for a wonderful line that allows those who want to believe the artist is a person as much as a money-hungry, fame machine keep on living the dream.
Now, I have no problem with Kanye wanting fame and fortune. I would prefer that he could say, “I want to be famous and rich. I want every restaurant and club to clear the aisles and the dance floor for me.”
Of course, if he said that, Kanye would be eviscerated for his vanity by even his most ardent and willingly misled fans. In the same interview he is careful to protect himself from any blatant claim as ego-tastic.
West makes the safe bet and says that Beyonce tickets are tickets to see the best performer in the music business right now. He also says that Jay-Z and Lil’ Wayne are the best lyricists. Of course, he reminds the interviewer, Shaheem Reid, that he is the number one entertainer and in a few years I am sure he will be the best entertainer of all time.
I am surprised he did not mention that it all right for Ne-Yo to just come out and admit that he is either gay or, in an related note, the scum of the R&B universe (remember throwing kid from stage, humping underage girl). That would be a pretty ingenious and safe comment to make. Also it would make him acceptable to just about every potential market out there.
In other celebrity-saying outrageous-stuff news, Lily Allen, the original Katy Perry just announced that she could not stand being with anyone who is bad in bed and that it is an innate skill, not a learned behavior. This just in time for the release of her new single, “The Fear.”
In case anyone forgot about her and her Lily Allen tour tickets, this serves as a reminder that she wants you attention. The next step is an actual sex video where she looks bored while doing little if any work (kind of like the Paris Hilton sex video).
