The commencement of the team was in the form of the first “Nashville Kats” from the years 1997 to 2001. They used to play in the Sommet Center (earlier Gaylord Entertainment Center) in downtown Nashville. Eddie Khayat initially coached the team in the years 1997 and 1998 and was succeeded by Pat Sperduto to maintain a balance in the team.
The team moved to Atlanta after Virgil Williams, an Atlanta based businessman bought out the franchise for nearly $10 million (US) in the year 2001. The team initially played in Atlanta's downtown Philips Arena but later relocated to suburban Duluth and played in the Arena at Gwinnett Center for the years 2003 and 2004.
In the year 2005, the Nashville Kats returned to the league and they acquired all of the pre-move history from the Force, making this franchise a year 2002 expansion team. The games that were played in the year 2005 were by far, the most successful in team history.
The Force's official mascot used to be a high-tech runner named G-Force, but now, their current mascot is a blue, cuddly monster named Blu.
